This Sunday - Advent 2 - A Prayer for Peace

Forerunners and messengers advance the advent of our God. While John the Baptizer’s voice in the wilderness may be the principal focus of the day, Malachi’s prophesy could as easily herald the coming Lord Jesus as forerunner of the Lord of hosts. Finally all the baptized are called to participate in the sharing of the gospel. In so doing we prepare the way for the coming of the Lord and assist all flesh in capturing a vision of the “salvation of God.”

Readings: Malachi 3:1-4, Luke 1:68-79, Philippians 1:3-11, Luke 3:1-6

Bring Peace to the Earth Again
This year, our Advent hymn is Bring Peace to Earth Again.

All Are Welcome!
There is so much going on in December, we thought a calendar would help!
Prayers of Thanksgiving for everyone who contributed to our ‪#GivingTuesday‬ campaign, especially the three folks who signed up for new reoccurring donations. Reoccurring online donations helps friends and members live generously, without having to think about it much, and it allows those of us working on the budget to have a good idea what to expect!

Thank you all!

This Sunday is our Annual Meeting.  This is our opportunity to vote on officers, budget, and to review and celebrate the past year.  Members and non members are welcome, but only voting members may vote.  The meeting will begin shortly after worship on Sunday.

Last week, Will Tanzman announced the Reclaim Chicago Launch Event.  It is this Saturday (tomorrow) 9:30 - 11:00 am followed by door-to-door canvassing for endorsed candidates.  National Association of Letter Carriers Hall, 3850 S. Wabash Ave. Chicago.

Our readings during November speak of the end times. Zephaniah proclaims that the coming day of the Lord will be filled with wrath and distress. Paul says it will come like a thief in the night and urges us to be awake and sober. Jesus tells the parable of the talents, calling us to use our gifts, while we still have time, for the greater and common good. In a world filled with violence and despair, we gather around signs of hope—word, water, bread and wine—eager to welcome the good news of Christ's coming among us.

Readings: Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18, Psalm 90:1-8 [9-11] 12, 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, Matthew 25:14-30

Happy Birthday this week to Ben H., Judy, and Eliot!

e-News

First Trinity E-News read it all here!

On this day we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel of Christ—the good news—that makes us free! Though we give thanks for the events of the sixteenth-century Reformation that brought renewal to the church of that time, we pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to unite the church today in its proclamation and witness to the world. In the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians will also be one at the Lord's table.  And we celebrate Reformation Sunday!  Color of the day is Red!

Readings: Jeremiah 31:31-34, Psalm 46, Romans 3:19-28, John 8:31-36

In preparation for the upcoming voter's meeting on November 16, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the First Trinity Constitution and Bylaws.

This week's Bible Study, Tuesday 7 pm - Katie is teaching!  Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness'/Justice's sake:  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
