The Art Bowl

All Are Welcome!
View this email in your browser
Last summer First Lutheran Church of the Trinity was blessed to be able to send  two students to summer camp at Lutherdale Bible Camp in Wisconsin.  Kids that might not have otherwise gone to camp were swimming, canoeing and even riding a zip line.  It was really cool!

This summer we have seven kids who want to go.  Over the last year they have created lasting friendships over weekly service and fellowship activities at the church.  They worked together to create a fantastic Christmas Pageant, and this summer they have been raising money for camp with their lemonade stand.

Can you help us get them the rest of the way there?

This Thursday night is The Art Bowl.  Dan Pugh of Eugene Barnett & Associates has collected hundreds of hand-made, ceramic bowls, created and donated by local artist and children.  These bowls will be on offer to the public for a $20 (or 2/$30)  contribution. After selecting a bowl people are invited to share a meal of soups and chili made by local chefs and foodies. There will even be vegetarian and vegan options! 100 percent of all contributions will go directly to the First Trinity Kid’s Activity Fund to help pay for summer camp and other children's activities.

The Art Bowl will take place in the auditorium of First Lutheran Church of the Trinity, 643 w 31st Street.  Doors open at 6:30 pm.  There will be raffles, music, and the First Trinity Kid's Lemonade Stand will be giving away free samples!

We'll have raffle tickets for sale at the event. Raffles include:
- White Sox Backpack Cooler
- Picnic in the park gift basket
- Ricobene's Gift Card
- Paul Konerko mini statue in box
- Three pot crock pot
- Two dozen made-to-order tamales
- Some other neat stuff!
Raffle tickets are $3 each or 2/$5, 4/$10. Winners do not need to be present.

Come, get a beautiful, one of a kind bowl, while helping some great kids have a beautiful, one of a kind summer!

Dish to Pass - Chopped Salad

I wanted to create an easy salad, similar to the chopped salad at Portillo's but with my own twist and no leftover ingredients. This was a hit!

3 romaine hearts, rinsed and chopped
4 roma tomatoes, rinsed and chopped
1 bunch of green onions,  rinsed and chopped
1 small jar of stuffed green olives (about 4 oz), chopped
4 oz blue cheese, crumbled
1 pound bacon, fried crisp, drained, and chopped
6 eggs, hard boiled, cooled and chopped
1 pound ditalini pasta, boiled about 8 minutes, drained and cooled
16 oz creamy Italian dressing.

It's a salad, you know what to do!  Mix it all up!

Some tips:
  • Rinse the pasta and eggs in cold water to cool them more quickly.
  • Buy a chuck of blue cheese (rather than crumbles) it is usually more flavorful and less expensive.  Coarsely chop it with a knife and it will crumble nicely.
  • Some people like to add roasted, chopped chicken.
  • I like the Marzetti creamy italian dressing.
  • I also like to toss the lettuce in the dressing, then add all the other ingredients.  This just helps to make sure that the lettuce is evenly coated.

Sharing a Meal

When God's Closet is open on Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings, we often share a meal with those who come to shop in the clothing pantry.  This is a potluck style meal, consisting of food that was donated to the church and prepared by volunteers.  It's always a nice time!

Today we shared chopped salad, chili and hot dogs, with a nice watermelon for dessert!  Anyone is welcome to come and eat or participate as a volunteer.

God's Closet is open Tuesdays 5-7 and Fridays 10-noon.  Contact gcloset@firsttrinitychicago.com for info.

Too Deep for Words - Lenten Study, Soup, and Worship

During the season of Lent, members of First Lutheran Church of The Trinity will continue our tradition of gathering with members of Christ the Mediator Lutheran Church - Chicago for our Lenten Wednesday night services at 6 PM. We will join for soup and discussion around this year’s series “Too Deep for Words.”

Utilizing this ELCA resource for 2014, we will explore themes of repentance and re-centering through Paul’s Letter to the Romans in a five week series with a brief worship to follow after each session.

We look forward to the conversation and study with our sisters and brothers from Christ the Mediator!
