First Trinity E-News Click to view email in your browser The first night of Catechemmunity was a lot of fun.  Be sure to join us next week!  The First Trinity Community Lenten Devotional is available for download, on the blog, on by following #FTLent on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, or you can just pick up a paper copy on Sunday! On Ash Wednesday the church began its journey toward baptismal immersion in the death and resurrection of Christ. This year, the Sundays in Lent lead us to focus on five covenants God makes in the Hebrew Scriptures and to use them as lenses through which to view baptism. First Peter connects the way God saved Noah's family in the flood with the way God saves us through the water of baptism. The baptismal covenant is made with us individually, but the new life we are given in baptism is for the sake of the whole world. Readings: Genesis 9:8-17, Psalm 25:1-10, 1 Peter 3:18-22, Mark 1:9-15

This is going to be a fantastic week.  We have Transfiguration + Burning Palms + Burying Alleluia, Beer and Hymns, Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Catechemmunity.  

We'll also be releasing the First Trinity Community Lenten Devotional.  The devotional will be available on our blog, or pick up a copy on Sunday, Ash Wednesday.

The Sundays after Epiphany began with Jesus' baptism and end with three disciples' vision of his transfiguration. In Mark's story of Jesus' baptism, apparently only Jesus sees the Spirit descending and hears the words from heaven. But now Jesus' three closest friends hear the same words naming him God's beloved son. As believers, Paul writes, we are enabled to see the God-light in Jesus' face, because the same God who created light in the first place has shone in our hearts to give us that vision. The light of God's glory in Jesus has enlightened us through baptism and shines in us also for others to see.

Readings: 2 Kings 2:1-12, Psalm 50:1-6, 2 Corinthians 4:3-6, Mark 9:2-9

Ash Wednesday Ashes Will be imposed in the Community Center Green Chapel. Instead of all day this year. we'll be having three "shifts," as well as our annual gathering for evening worship, and the start of our Lenten series! "Drop in" for ashes in the chapel: Morning: 7AM-9:30AM LUNCH!: 11AM-1PM Afternoon: 2:30-4:30

Time to Burn the Palms and Bury the Alleluias!

Bring your Palm-Sunday-Palms. WE WILL BURN THEM!

Bring your ALLELUIA's. We'll bury them. 

The ashes from the palms will be used for the imposition of ashes for First Trinity Ash Wednesday.
